We have previously discussed general negligence, but we have not defined what a personal injury is. Anytime somebody does something negligent and injures you or if there is a code or law that states that a infringement leading to injury leaves one liable, that is a personal injury.
A good example is a building code. If a landlord is told that they need to have railings and does not do so, which causes someone to fall down a flight of stairs, they are negligent.
Another example would be strict liability. If I build a lawnmower is constructed with four wheels, a motor, but an exposed spinning blade with no cover for protection, that is unreasonably dangerous. That is going to be strict liability.
A dog bite in Minnesota is another generally strict liability. If you are there legally, have not provoked the dog, but they bite you, they are going to automatically be held liable.
Again, anytime you get injured due to negligence and you have damages and want to be compensated, that is a personal injury.
