In part 8 of our series dealing with claim denials by the at-fault driver’s insurance company, we are examining gig economy drivers. It is something that we have been seeing more and more as the numbers continue to rise for those working in the gig economy. Those working for companies like Uber, Lyft, and Door Dash might be working throughout the week, driving across cities, and for whatever reason, they did not opt to get additional protection while they are working.
So, the regular car insurance on their car is not going to just accept that injury claim from your car accident if they were working on something that was outside the scope of what their contract with the insurance company was. Their response would be that it is an inappropriate use.
In such a case, you would have to look to a different insurance company and hope that they have it. So, if they are not using it for what it is contracted, they are going to deny the claim.
