Something that has unfortunately become more common recently are car accidents caused by stolen vehicles. Particularly in St. Paul and Minneapolis, there have been more stolen vehicles, and we have had clients call us that have been in some terrible accidents.

If you get hit by a stolen vehicle, you still have some recourse. You are not going to be able to bring a claim against the owner of the car, because in order to do that, you have to show that they gave permission to take their car out joy riding or drive it through a barrier hedge and into your car. That is not going to happen. It is a stolen vehicle. By definition, they did not have permission to drive it.

Instead, you would bring that as an uninsured motorist claim against your own insurance policy. You still have your no-fault insurance to help with your medical bills and wage loss, but you can still bring that second claim against your own insurance company.
