If you are suing another party for your personal injury after an accident, at some point, you, your attorney, and the other attorney or the court are going to insist on a mediation for the claim.

Mediation, for your purposes, is a day to talk about money. It is not a day to talk about the emotional impact that it has had on you. It is not to talk about your day-to-day troubles that you have had because of it. It is a day just to talk about money. Those things play a part in what that value is to you and what you are willing to accept, but the focus is on money.

You will be in one room. The insurance company will be in another room, so you will never see the defendant. There will be a mediator that walks back and forth and has candid conversations with both sides about what they think the value is, what they are willing to offer, and what you are willing to accept.

It is usually a painless experience, but it can be a long, emotional day. Most of it is just going to be going back and forth exchanging numbers until you either reach an impasse or until you reach a settlement.
