Every time we get a slip and fall call from somebody, the first thing we want to know is when it happened. The worst thing to hear is that someone was injured by slipping and falling on ice two months ago.
There are questions every insurance company wants answered before paying on a claim. Did you have a photo of where you fell at the time of the fall? It is difficult for us to tell what caused your fall when two months afterwards the ice has already melted. They are going to want to know what shoes you were wearing. Were you wearing rubber-soled shoes? Have you been to this place before? What time of the day was it? Could you see the patch of ice, or was it hidden for some reason?
Insurance companies are looking for ways to not pay, so if you do not have the answers for all those questions or you have not thought about them before you get the call, they are going to try to tell you it is your own fault that you were injured, regardless of what the insured had done.
Make sure you know what caused you to fall, what you were wearing, if you have been there before, how you walked in, how you walked out, what you saw on the ground, what you did to avoid it, if it was too dark, whether it was snowing out there that day. All of those important things to know before you try to bring a claim against the insurance company. The sooner you bring the claim, the better it is.
