We often get questions regarding the type of doctors clients should see after an injury. While we are unable to give medical advice, there are some basic parameters about the types of doctors you should consider following an injury.

If it is immediately following an accident, you should probably go to the emergency room. Trauma doctors are looking for acute injuries, a broken bone, bleeding on your brain, and other injuries that need emergency care.

Otherwise, you should talk to your family physician to get a treatment plan, or you can talk with a chiropractor, who will also come up with a treatment plan. They do more passive care. They do the treatment to you. You lie on a table, and they put you back in shape so that you can recover.

You might also start with physical therapy, where you are actively doing the care yourself. You are getting guidance on what to do and what exercises to build yourself back up. If you are getting headaches or getting tingling in your arms or legs, you are probably going to want to talk to a neurologist, or if there is a bone that is out of place that is putting pressure on a nerve and causing impingement, you are probably going to talk to an orthopedic doctor.

Dependent on what is happening with your individual circumstances, these are the people you are probably going to consider. It is important to actually take the steps to go to them to get yourself back to where you were.
